Post-doc in theoretical physics, Lille

Electronic structure of graphene in different environments (IEMN, Lille, France, starting 2010)
A two years post-doc position is available in the theoretical physics group (http://physique.iemn.univ-lille1.fr) at the Institute for Electronics, Microelectronics, and Nanotechnology (IEMN), Lille. The IEMN is a research institute jointly run by the CNRS (French National Research Center) and the University Lille 1. The position is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The initial contract will be for one year with possible renewal for a second year.

The goal of the project is to investigate the influence of the environment (substrate, adsorbates, doping) on the spectroscopic properties of graphene. The project involves the use and development of semi-empirical and ab-initio methods (DFT + many-body perturbation theory) for electronic excitations. Work will be done in close collaboration with the experimental spectroscopy group of Prof. Thomas Pichler at Vienna University.

The candidate should have a PhD in Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, or Material Science and have demonstrated scientific creativity. A strong background in theoretical solid-state physics is necessary. Furthermore, experience with ab-initio calculations/method development is helpful. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.

For applying, please send (i) a letter of motivation, (ii) a CV including a brief description of previous research, and (iii) the coordinates of two persons willing to write a letter of recommendation to Ludger.Wirtz@isen.iemn.univ-lille1.fr. Do not hesitate to contact me for further questions. Applications will be evaluated continuously until the position is filled.
