Cargèse

The Institute was created in the 60's and is now organizing scientific meetings throughout the year. It is located on the west shore of Corsica, at the entrance of Cargèse, a small village of 800 inhabitants (50 km north of Ajaccio). Beaches are located in the vicinity of the Institute and on the opposite side of the village. Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean sea, 150 km south of the French coast and offering beautiful landscapes and historical landmarks.

Lunch will be served at the Institute. A few rooms are available at the Institute (but without cooking facilities). Most lodging is in the village (20 minutes away on foot) in shared apartments or hotels. Participants are asked to bring walking shoes and a flashlight for evening walks to the village.

The Cargese Institute has a music room with a piano. Those who are interested to use the music room may bring their own musical instrument.

School participants are expected to arrive on Monday October  11th, and to leave on Saturday morning, October 23rd. Travel arrangements should be made by the applicants. Please, book your flight and boat tickets as soon as you are notified of your acceptance. There is no travel agent in Cargèse, so take care of your return ticket before departure.

  • Ajaccio can be reached by plane from Paris, Marseille or Nice http://www.airfrance.fr
• Train + boat
  • Train from Paris to Marseille (3h) or to Nice (5h 30 mn): http://www.sncf.com or http://www.idtgv.com which may offer cheaper fares to Marseille.
  • Boat from the French or Italian coast though the companies: SNCM http://www.sncm.fr or Corsica Ferries http://www.corsicaferries.com

Tranportation from Ajaccio to Cargèse

• Public Buses
  • There are regular bus transfers from Ajaccio road station to Cargèse twice a day (except on Sundays).
  • Ajaccio to Cargèse: 7:15 and 16:00
  • Cargèse to Ajaccio: 8:30 and 15:30
  • There is a shuttle from the airport to Ajaccio bus station (which is also the ferry port).

• Taxi
  • 85 € daytime (100 € night time, before 8 am). All main car rental companies are available at Ajaccio airport.
• By road
  • If you drive to Cargèse from Ajaccio, follow the direction "Calvi par la côte" (or "Calvi" when missing).
  • If you are going to rent a car or take a taxi, it is advisable to do it through the Cargèse Institute to obtain a discount. Contact:
